Durban - A Westville resident was injured during a scuffle with armed robbers who hit him over the head with a firearm at his home in Rockdale Avenue on Tuesday morning.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas said the resident was outside hanging up washing to dry when three armed men accosted him and held him up at gunpoint.

“A scuffle broke out and one of the robbers hit the resident on his head with a firearm. They then took the resident into the house where they ransacked it, grabbing laptops, a television and cash, before fleeing the scene,” Mathios said.

“The resident declined emergency medical care and opted to go privately to see a doctor.”

Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

In a separate incident on Tuesday an armed robber held up staff in broad daylight at a Westville business in Lincoln Terrace.

Mathios said the robber walked into the business pushing a trolley at around 12.40pm before accosting one of the staff members.

“He asked the staff member to take him to view products at the back of the shop and as they walked there he grabbed her by the neck pulled her into a stockroom. He pulled out a firearm and ordered the staff to lie on the ground before robbing them of their bank cards,” Mathios said.

“He opened the safe and tills and fled with R2 000 in cash,” Mathios said.

Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
