Montreal - Accused murderer Luka Magnotta is aboard a Canadian military aircraft, sent to extradite him back to Canada from Berlin, Germany, Canadian officials confirmed Monday morning.

Magnotta faces first-degree murder charges in the killing and dismemberment of Jun Lin, 33, a Chinese computer engineering student at Montreal's Concordia University. Magnotta then mailed Lin's body parts to political parties and schools.

Magnotta, a 29-year-old former porn actor and model, was arrested in a Berlin internet cafe on June 4, following an international manhunt that stretched from North America to France and Germany.

In a joint communiqué, Canadian Minister of Justice Rob Nicholson and Attorney General Vic Toews thanked the German government for “their swift and decisive action in this matter.”

Lin's dismembered torso was found in a suitcase outside a Montreal apartment building last month. Police later recovered his hands and feet, which were mailed to the Conservative and Liberal party headquarters in Ottawa and to two schools in Vancouver in the days following his murder.

Lin's family arrived in Montreal last week to bring his body back to China.

A makeshift memorial to Lin, whose murder and dismemberment were allegedly filmed and posted on the internet by Magnotta, has sprung up at the statue to Canadian physician Norman Bethune in front of Concordia University. - Sapa-dpa
