Tokyo -

A Japanese military twin-rotor cargo helicopter was seen mid-air on Wednesday on a mission to dump water onto a reactor at the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant, television images showed.

The CH-47 Chinook seen in the air was one of about four which the Self-Defence Forces were readying to deploy to help cool fuel rods at the stricken plant, the Yomiuri Shimbun daily reported in its online edition. - Sapa-AFP
