Europe's oldest-known resident, Marie-Therese Bardet of France, died Friday at the age of 114, French media reported.

Bardet was the sixth-eldest person in the world, according to the Validated Living Supercentarians list of the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

The Brittany native had just turned 114 on June 2. Her death was announced to AFP agency by the retirement home where she was living.

In a profile of her published on her birthday AFP said she had two children, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The oldest-known person is Besse Cooper, a 115-year-old American, ahead of Dini Manfredini, an Italian-American and Jiroemon Kimura, a Japanese man, both of whom are also aged 115. - Sapa-dpa
