Head of Independent Newspapers in NZ dies

Wellington - Mike Robson, managing director of the Independent Newspapers media company in New Zealand died suddenly on Wednesday.

Robson, 61, died at his Wellington home in the evening after returning from a run, one of the group's newspapers, the Dominion, reported in an obituary notice released through the New Zealand Press Association.

Robson was also a trustee of news and information group Reuters Group Plc.

INL is the largest newspaper group in New Zealand and also publishes a string of magazine titles.

Robson, who started his career in newspapers as a reporter with The New Zealand Herald, became managing director of INL in 1983.

INL owns just under half of pay television operator Sky Network Television, of which Robson was a director.

The group is 49,5 percent owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp and 10 percent owned by Telecom Corp of New Zealand. - Reuters
