IFJ reports 66 journalists killed in 2016

Brussels - Sixty-six journalists were killed in different countries around the world while performing professional duties since the beginning of 2016, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) said Monday.

The data was circulated by the federation in relation to the upcoming International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists on November 2, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2013.

According to the IFJ, 11 journalists were killed in Afghanistan, eight in Mexico, seven in Iraq.

Five journalists were killed in Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, India, and Guatemala each and three in Brazil.

Two journalists were killed in Libya, Turkey, Somalia and the Philippines each, one in Guinea, Jordan, South Sudan and Ukraine each.
