Singapore - A former senior Singapore official appeared in court on Wednesday on corruption charges for allegedly accepting sexual favours from three women in exchange for government contracts.

Peter Lim Sin Pang, 51, was commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force when he was arrested in January and dismissed from his post.

He was charged with 10 counts of corruption. The women were all executives of companies bidding for contracts from Lim's department, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau said.

It said the offences occurred between May 2010 and November 2011.

Lim was granted bail of 10 000 Singapore dollars (7 700 US dollars) and his passport was impounded. The next court date is July 5.

Authorities arrested Lim two weeks after former Central Narcotics Bureau director Ng Boon Gay was charged over similar allegations.

The arrest of the two senior officials has scandalized Singapore, which has a reputation for a clean government. - Sapa-dpa
