London - The driver of a stolen car who hit speeds of up to 100mph during a police chase turned out to be a 13-year-old boy.

Police laid a stinger spiked strip across the road to shred the VW Golf’s tyres to stop it.

Officers attempted to stop it and chased it at up 100mph to nearby Bingley where the stinger was used. Police said the driver and a 16-year-old boy were arrested.

The 13-year-old, from Shipley, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been sentenced to 18 months’ youth detention after being charged with burglary, car theft and dangerous driving.
