Bangkok -

Police rescued 13 Laotian women and girls who had been forced into sex slavery in southern Thailand, officials confirmed on Monday.

The police acted on a tip that a local karaoke bar was soliciting prostitution and used undercover officers to investigate.

“We can confirm that arrests did take place last night,” Police Lieutenant Pongsak Trikong told dpa.

Six of the 13 Laotians were underage and forced to work there against their will, he said.
