Travellers going abroad will no longer have to carry cash, making them less likely to fall prey to criminals because of large amounts of cash in their possession as tourists.

The new Nedbank Travel Card will allow travellers to load up to 10 international currencies onto their cards before their departure, using locked-in exchange rates.

Clients obtaining the travel card, will also receive a back-up card at no additional cost.

“It’s a new way of travelling with money internationally. This will enable them to plan their overseas spending upfront and prevent any shocks related to exchange rates,” says Ciko Thomas, head of business and retail banking at Nedbank.

Users will be able to protect their transactions by setting a unique five-digit PIN when they receive the card. Globally, these will be accepted at 32 million ATMs and more 30 million point-of-sale locations associated with MasterCard. An added benefit is that there is no cost for point-of-sale purchases.
