Hangovers could be in your genes

London - Could your genes make you more prone to hangovers? That’s the suggestion of a study published in the journal Addiction.

Researchers interviewed more than 2 000 pairs of twins who had drunk alcohol in the previous year.

They asked questions on how often, and how much, people drank, as well as how many hangovers they suffered.

There were close similarities between twins’ answers and after allowing for factors such as family background — for example, how often people drank — which might skew findings, the researchers concluded that genes seemed to determine how likely someone was to get hangovers.

It’s thought that genes involved in inflammatory processes, which have been identified in other research, may be to blame. - Daily Mail
