Boston – American Russell Brown had a personal-best time of 3 minutes, 54.81 seconds to win the men's mile at the Boston Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday.

Brown beat a field that included defending champion and Olympic silver medalist Nick Willis of New Zealand, who finished third.

“For me, this is the Holy Grail of indoor track,” Brown said.

American Garrett Heath ran what he called an “awesome” race to overtake Willis for second. Willis made an aggressive early move - a change in his usual tactics.

“I kept pushing it and I was proud of my race,” he said.

Marina Muncan of Serbia won the women's race, edging Canada's Carmen Douma-Hussar with a final lunge at the finish in 4:34.46 as Douma-Hussar fell shortly after the finish.

“The last 150 meters I just tried to sprint as fast as I can,” said Muncan, who has sometimes served as a “rabbit” in races where other runners were seeking records.

Sally Kipyego of Kenya held off American Jenny Simpson in the women's 3,000 meters in 8:49.74, while Dejen Gebremeskel passed Mo Farah of Great Britain in the final meters in a torrid finish in the men's 3,000 in 7:35.37.

American Trell Kimmons, who has run under 10 seconds for 100

outdoors (9.95) captured the 60 in 6.60, edging fellow Americans Chris Davis and Ivory Williams.

Former world champion Lauryn Williams won a photo finish in the women's 60, finishing .01 ahead of fellow American Marshevet Myers. American Natasha Hasting, who has the second-fastest time in the world this year, won the women's 400 in a meet record 51.88.

America's Jen Suhr easily captured the women's pole vault, in 15 feet, 1 1/2 inches.

Other winners included Calvin Smith of the US in the men's 300 (32.93), Duane Solomon of the US in the men's 600 (1:17), and American Charlie Kern in the mile (4:19.73). – Sapa-AP
