CAPE TOWN – Caster Semenya has had to juggle her studies with her exploits on the athletics track, but now she has reached the finish line of a different kind.

The 800m world champion completed her Diploma in Sports Science at North-West University in Potchefstroom, and she posted a photo of herself with her graduation gown and cap on her Twitter account.

The 27-year-old included a caption that stated “#mamaimadeit”.

Her wife Violet Raseboya took to Instagram to celebrate Semenya’s achievement, posting that she was an inspirational figure.

“She builds and inspires others because she knows what it’s like to be torn down,” Raseboya said.

“Never give up in life no matter what. She is my inspiration. Mokgadi gotapa golema go ja lephala le Bashumi Congrats Wewe.”

Semenya was back in the headlines last week when she cruised to yet another record, breaking a 35-year-old South African mark in the 1 000m at the Athletix Grand Prix event in Pretoria by running 2:35.43, beating the time of 2:37.00 set by Ilse Wicksell in 1983.

The 2016 Olympic champion will continue her season at the South African championships in Pretoria this weekend, where she will compete in the 800m and 1 500m.
