Springbok Bob Skinstad and his girlfriend sat locked in a bedroom desperately phoning for help as a group of men burgled his Claremont, Cape Town, home in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Nina Kirsten said the burglars got away with two cellphones, a digital camera and a watch.

Kirsten did not know if any of the Springbok's rugby memorabilia had been stolen.

The former Western Province and Stormers star is now based in Johannesburg but was on a visit to Cape Town.

"Skinstad had to be back in Johannesburg the next day, so he laid the charge with the Randburg police.

"We will have more details only when the case is passed to the Claremont police for investigation," she said.

Skinstad and his girlfriend had arrived home at about 1am.

"His girlfriend woke up at about 4am when she heard voices," Kirsten said.

"The couple locked the door to the bedroom and phoned 10111 and a private security company."

The men fled with the stolen goods and no one has been arrested.

Skinstad was unavailable for comment.
