The battle to gain custody of South African ex-cricketer and Pinetown dentist Tertius Bosch's children has added a new twist to the mystery surrounding his death.

It has been revealed that whoever has custody of Corbin, 7, and Eathan Bosch, 3, has access to and control of Bosch's estate, valued at over R5-million.

The person would also receive a generous monthly allowance.

Bosch died in Westville Hospital on Valentine's Day last year, allegedly from Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS).

Only five percent of those suffering from the syndrome die from it.

On Friday a court interdict was obtained by Bosch's widow, Karen-Anne, and her ex-lover and attorney, Henry Selzer, to prevent the Bosch's babysitter, Cathrina "Rina" van der Merwe, from associating with Bosch's sons.

Karen-Anne worked at Selzer's office in Durban where she acted as his bookkeeper, while Selzer was her attorney.

Van der Merwe met the family after she became a patient of Tertius Bosch and later provided them with short-term insurance.

Once familiar with the Bosch family she babysat the children on a regular basis, forming a deep friendship with Corbin and Eathan.

The battle for custody began when Van der Merwe told private investigator Hennie Els at the exhumation of Bosch's body last week that she was planning on taking custody of the children.

Van der Merwe handed Els documents relating to Selzer and Karen-Anne's private email correspondence, letters to clients and other attorneys, as well as personal letters.

The documents were obtained after Van der Merwe and her son, Allan, allegedly copied the files onto disks from Selzer's office computers.

Van der Merwe told Els she had more dirt to follow, which would prove that Karen-Anne was an unfit mother, ensuring that she would gain custody of Corbin and Eathan.

Selzer has also experienced paralysis, pins and needles and numbness, similar symptoms to those which affected Bosch.

He developed these symptoms in October last year, four months after he and Karen-Anne developed a serious relationship.

Selzer has been given the same tests which were conducted on Bosch by Dr Reggie Perumal, a private forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy on Bosch.

The results are expected later this month.

If anything were to happen to Karen-Anne, Selzer would gain custody of the children until their future had been determined.

Selzer said he would step in until custody was sorted out.

Els was hired by Bosch's sister, Rita van Wetten, and brother, Toon Bosch, to investigate several irregularities in Bosch's practice.

The irregularities included the possibility of money laundering, the dissemination of false information to the Natal Cricket Union to obtain sponsorship, tax evasion and a mysterious break-in at his practice.

Police have also opened up theft and fraud charges relating to money which has gone missing from Bosch's estate, but have refused to comment on the amount or the circumstances surrounding the missing funds.

Cathrina van der merwe was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
