CAPE TOWN – The Cape Cobras took a major stride towards victory during the afternoon session on day three of their four-day series clash against the Dolphins at Newlands on Wednesday.
After the visitors showed good resistance in the morning to wipe out the deficit with just one wicket down, the Cobras bowlers roared back.
It was sustained pressure from Dane Paterson from the Kelvin Grove End that led to the dam wall bursting.
The Proteas seam bowler was in fine form, beating the outside edge with regularity.
He was particularly good against Khaya Zondo, with the Dolphins skipper all at sea for the 14 balls he faced.
This allowed Cobras skipper Dane Piedt to chip away from the Wynberg End, picking up both Cody Chetty (44) and Zondo (0) in a short space of time.
This left the Dolphins in real trouble, before Paterson got his just reward on the stroke of tea time when the claimed the big wicket of Sarel Erwee for 54, caught in the slips.
