CAPE TOWN – Proteas bowler Lungi Ngidi’s father Jerome passed away on Friday morning in Kloof near Durban.
And the paceman took to Twitter late in the day, stating that he had been subjected to a “strip search” at an airport on his way back to South Africa from India, where he was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament.
It was not immediately clear whether Ngidi was at the Chennai International Airport or the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai on his return journey to Johannesburg.
Titans chief executive Jacques Faul confirmed to Times Live on Friday that Jerome Ngidi had passed on. Times Live reported that Ngidi Senior recently had a back operation.
Late on Friday, Lungi Ngidi tweeted: “Just to top off my day.....a "random" strip search at the airport.....”

The 22-year-old Ngidi had arranged for his parents to watch him play in his second Test against India at the Wanderers in January, which was the first time they had been to Johannesburg, after he took 7/90 in his debut game at Centurion.
Look who arrived to watch the final test match, 1st time in a hotel, 1st time in joburg
