CAPE TOWN – There is still no certainty with regards to who will coach the Proteas after the tour of England.

The Cricket South Africa (CSA) panel appointed to make a recommendation on the way forward for the national team were set to do so in a report submitted to the CSA board of directors, who met on Friday in Johannesburg.

It was hoped that the result would be that there would be some clarity as to whether incumbent coach Russell Domingo would be retained, or whether a new mentor would be chosen.

But CSA said in a statement on Friday evening that the panel – Advocate Norman Arendse, Dr Oupa Nkagisang, Rihan Richards, Gary Kirsten and Eric Simons – had not yet completed their work.

“The Board received an update report from the panel charged with the responsibility to consider and recommend a candidate for the position of Proteas head coach. As the panel has not completed its work, the board agreed to provide extension of time until the end of the current Proteas tour to England for the panel to complete its work.”

It is understood that a number of experienced candidates such as current Lions boss Geoffrey Toyana, former Cobras coaches Shukri Conrad and Richard Pybus, as well as ex-Titans man Rob Walter are among those who had applied for the post, along with Domingo.

CSA said that a comprehensive update on the progress made to establish the T20 Global League was also presented to the board, who expressed their satisfaction with the progress made.
