CAPE TOWN – South Africa's 200m sprinter Anaso Jobodwana has been disqualified from Thursday’s medal race despite being cleared with a green card to run after an indiscretion in Wednesday's semifinal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

In the first attempt to get the 200m semifinal underway, Jobodwana lunged forward onto his hands while under the starter's 'set' command, without his feet leaving the starting blocks.

The race was halted as the track officials consulted after which Jobodwana was shown the green card and allowed to rejoin the semifinal, and he qualified for the final with a second-place finish.

However, when the names of Thursday's 200m finalists were revealed on the Games' official website later, Jobodwana's name was missing which was an indication that he has been disqualified.

The Commonwealth Games have yet to issue a statement at the time of going to the press.
