Former Western Province League wing Sammy Paulse will coach WP in the Vodacom Cup next rugby season.

Paulse, 38, is already in his fourth week of preparing for the 2002 cup which will start with a match against Border in East London. Before that, he hopes to arrange two friendly matches for the team.

Paulse was part of an exciting League team which successfully played a running game that he hopes will also be possible with the WP team in the Vodacom Cup.

"Gert Smal and Carel du Plessis laid a good foundation for WP rugby, and I hope to build on that," said Paulse.

He was formerly an assistant coach of the WP and South African under-21 teams, the Currie Cup team last year and the WP SA Cup team this year.
