DURBAN – SuperSport United goal-poacher Jeremy Brockie has set his sights on achieving double success on the continental stage.
Brockie is sitting at the summit of top goal scorers in this year’s Caf Confederation Cup. The New Zealand international has netted nine goals so far in this competition.
Matsatsantsa A Pitori are facing the mammoth task of upsetting the Tunisian giants Club Africain in the second leg of the Caf Confederation Cup on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 10pm SA time at the Stade Olympique de Rades.
The two sides played to a 1-1 stalemate in the first leg in South Africa two weeks ago. The winner of this clash will face either FUS Rabat of Morocco or TP Mazembe of DRC Congo.
Mazembe have the advantage after claiming a 1-0 victory at home in the first leg two weeks ago. The Congolese giants are the defending champions of the competition.
Brockie, who has lifted three cups with SuperSport during his two-and-a-half year stay in South Africa, wants to attain double success in Africa.
“Winning a trophy gives confidence going in to the game against Club Africain. We are a couple of games away from winning another one. We know it is going to be difficult, but the boys are confident enough after the first leg, where we created a lot of chances,” he said.
“As footballers, we always want to play in as many cup finals as we can and win as much silverware (as possible). We are so close to another one. The boys will be giving it their all. It is all about recovery now and making sure that we are well prepared for Tunisia.”

SuperSport are looking to become the second side from South Africa to triumph in the Caf Confederation Cup, with Kaizer Chiefs are the only other local side to have won the event in 2001, when it was still called the African Cup Winners’ Cup.
Orlando Pirates felt short in 2015 under Eric Tinkler when they were beaten by Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the final.
Brockie will lead the strike-force when SuperSport lock horns with Club African and he is itching to add to his nine-goal tally.
“It is my award to lose at the moment. I’m leading the goal-scoring chart. We’ve got three games left and hopefully I can add to the tally on Sunday. It would be a nice accolade if it does come,” he said.
The closest rival to Brockie is Club Africain’s Ibrahim Chenihi and Saber Khalifa (five goals each), as well as Ben Malango of TP Mazembe (six).
Beside Brockie’s individual brilliance in front of goal, SuperSport have built their success on character and their never-say-die attitude.
“We have that never say die attitude. We’ve got a lot of experienced players at the club. If we go a goal behind, we don’t panic,” Brockie said.
“I believe we can show more character in Tunisia. It is going to be a hostile environment, and that’s why we play football.”
