Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea missed his side's trip to Sunderland on Sunday with what manager Jose Mourinho described as a "little problem".

Sergio Romero deputised for the Spain international, who Mourinho said would be fit for United's Europa League quarter-final first leg away to Anderlecht on Thursday.

"David de Gea has a little problem," Mourinho told Sky Sports at the Stadium of Light. "He will be ready for the next fixture."

Mourinho made a total of five changes to the team held 1-1 by Everton last Tuesday, with Matteo Darmian, Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also coming in.

Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini was given the captain's armband.

Sunderland, managed by former United manager David Moyes, made one change, with Victor Anichebe replacing Fabio Borini.
