Jurgen Klopp says he will not launch Fabinho’s career in England until he is sure the £43million midfielder can cope with the intensity.

The Brazilian, 24, joined Liverpool from Monaco two days after the Champions League final.

Fabinho was not involved in the 18-man squad for Monday’s game at Crystal Palace, even though he had travelled to Selhurst Park.

Klopp has urged him to follow the example of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andrew Robertson.

He said: ‘It is about players understanding the position and who else is available as well, otherwise Fabinho would have been involved in the squad as he was in the first week. That is it. It is different football to what he is used to but he is improving already with big steps.

‘I can see that in the sessions and that is cool. He is used to playing at a high level in France. It is not about who we play but about how we play. It is all fine. For sure it is not nice for a new player (to not be playing). It never was. But everything will be fine with Fabinho.’

Loris Karius, meanwhile, will complete his move to Besiktas on a two-year loan deal today.

l An Italian football fan has been jailed for two-and-a-half years after an outbreak of violence ahead of the Champions League semi-final which left Liverpool fan Sean Cox seriously injured. Roma supporter Daniele Sciusco, 29, from Rome, admitted violent disorder ahead of the Anfield match on April 24.
