CAPE TOWN – “You never walk alone” not only rung out at Anfield on Sunday, but also all around South Africa as Liverpool fans celebrated their team’s 4-0 thrashing of West Ham.

Such a convincing win, coming on the back of a transfer window that bore serious fruit, will have filled Reds fans with great confidence that this is their season to win the Premier League title.

Alisson Becker was a world-record goalkeeper signing when he joined Jurgen Klopp’s squad (since surpassed by Kepa Arrizabalaga’s move to Chelsea), Naby Keita showed why he was worth the half-a-season wait that Liverpool had to endure, and Mohamed Salah continued where he left off last season by scoring the first goal.

But do Liverpool have what it takes to finally end their league-winning drought of 28 years?

Apart from Becker and Keita, Klopp also signed Brazilian midfielder Fabinho and Swiss striker Xherdan Shaqiri.

There’s little doubt about their ability to score goals, so the question mark has always been around their defence.

With Becker’s arrival, and his assured display against West Ham, you would think Klopp won’t have to deal with any further ‘Loris Karius moments’, while Virgil van Dijk will look to establish himself even further in the backline.

Andy Robertson was in fine form at left back against the Hammers too.
