CAPE TOWN – Can you believe it: Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela is back at Chippa United, less than a year after he was fired from the same post.
The Chilli Boys announced on social media that the 52-year-old Malesela will reclaim the reigns from Vladislav Heric, who the club said will work in a development role.
“Executive Chairman Siviwe Mpengesi revealed that Heric expressed an interest in running the Club Development project, with a partnership with a tertiary institution to be announced in due course,” Chippa United said on their Facebook page.
The 51-year-old Heric, from Serbia, guided Chippa to 10th in the Premiership this past season after taking over from Teboho Moloi in March, with the club in a relegation fight.
But Malesela has many fans in Port Elizabeth as his team played attractive football on his watch previously, which saw them secure a top-eight finish in the 2015/16 season.
However, Mpengesi decided to let him go after a poor start to the just-completed campaign as the Chilli Boys lost two and won one of their opening three matches.
This time around, Malesela will be assisted by Mbuyiselo Sambu, a previous interim coach who stood in while Malesela was suspended by the club after a number of losses during the 2016/17 season – only to return to save the team from relegation later.
