DURBAN – Ajax Cape Town and Bafana Bafana defender Rivaldo Coetzee is on the radar of Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic.

This was confirmed by his agent Mike Makaab of ProSport International and by the Urban Warriors.

“Yes, there is interest from Celtic. Last week they sent a scout to monitor him in a friendly match in Cape Town. I can’t say more than that,” Makaab explained.

Independent Media reported two weeks back that Coetzee has attracted the interest of Brondby IF of Denmark and KV Oostende, who are based in Belgium.

Ajax technical director Mich d’Avray also confirmed Celtic’s interest in Coetzee.

“Yes, we are aware of the interest from Celtic. The club is still waiting for the official offer. I can also confirm that they did send a scout to watch Rivaldo.

“We don’t intend to stand in his way. If the offer is presented on the table, I have no doubt that the club will listen to it. At the moment, there is no concrete offer that I know of,” D’Avray confirmed.

Coetzee went AWOL during the first few weeks of Ajax’s pre-season. He was unhappy that the majority of offers that came his way were refused.

Apart from Celtic, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are also keeping a close eye on the man from Kakamas in the Northern Cape.
