DURBAN – The Multichoice Diski Challenge has contributed immensely in the growth of football in South Africa.
The Premier Soccer League reserve league has given a lot of young players an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Players like Thabo Rakhale, Hendrick “Pule” Ekstein, Nduduzo Sibiya, Sibusiso Sibeko, Motjeka Madisha and Keletso Makgwala made their marks in their respective Diski teams before graduating into the first team.
The competition was created three years ago and has grown considerably. The past winners of the competition have travelled to the Netherlands to compete against the best in Europe.
And now PSL chairman Irvin Khoza has exclusively told Independent Media that the MDC will launch a cup competition.
“There will be a new competition in the MDC. We will soon launch the cup competition where all the teams that are playing in this division will take part. We want to attract more fans into the stadiums,” Khoza said.
Maritzburg United are at the summit of the Diski Challenge after six matches. The Diski Challenge matches are on a break at the moment until November 11.
