CAPE TOWN – Itumeleng Khune’s season is over, as the Kaizer Chiefs captain will miss the final Absa Premiership game against Ajax Cape Town on Saturday.

Interim Amakhosi coach Patrick Mabedi said on the Chiefs website upon arrival in the Mother City that Khune is battling with abdominal pain, which will see Brilliant Khuzwayo in goal for the Glamour Boys in what is likely to be his last game in the gold-and-black strip.

Mabedi added that striker Leonardo Castro will also sit out as he is suspended, while Sibusiso Khumalo (hamstring) and Teenage Hadebe (ankle) won’t turn out at Cape Town Stadium either (3pm kickoff).

While Chiefs may need a victory to guarantee third position on the log – depending on what fourth-placed Maritzburg United do against Golden Arrows – Ajax also need to win to be sure of avoiding a promotion-relegation playoff.

They are currently in 15th spot on 31 points, with SuperSport United – who face Baroka FC on Saturday – on 33.

Mabedi is keen to put one over his former Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral.

“I have an idea of how they will approach the game. I have worked with Muhsin before, and he’s able to vary his approach in one game,” he said.

“Ajax have a number of players that we have to watch. I played under Muhsin in the ’90s and I was captain here at Chiefs.

“And in the 2015/16 season, I was his assistant coach at Witbank Black Aces. So, I know his mentality. He will know me as well, and that will make for an interesting game.”

PSL Fixtures (all at 3pm):

Bloemfontein Celtic v Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates v Free State Stars, Ajax Cape Town v Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United v Golden Arrows, AmaZulu v Cape Town City, Platinum Stars v Wits, SuperSport United v Baroka FC, Polokwane City v Chippa United.
