DURBAN – Another Kaizer Chiefs no 10, Keagan Buchanan, is set to leave the club without making a notable impact.

The player who wears the No 10 jersey is regarded as one of the most respected in football.

You have to produce a stroke of genius, possess flair, big-match temperament and enjoy hero status if you don this famous number, but that hasn’t been the case for the mighty Amakhosi in the last couple of years.

Former players like Stanton “Stiga” Fredericks, Isaac “Shakes” Kungwane and Absolom “Scara” Thindwa all dazzled the masses during their stint with Amakhosi while wearing the No 10 jersey.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Real Madrid midfield maestro Luca Modric and Neymar of PSG are shining in their respective clubs with this famous jersey number.

Buchanan was handed No 10 two seasons ago when he joined Chiefs from Bloemfontein Celtic. A lot was expected of him, but he has failed to live up to his billing.

“He won’t be staying with Chiefs. He is leaving. We haven’t terminated his contract as yet, but we are in the process of doing that,” said Paul Mitchell, Buchanan's agent.

“We are hopeful that what happened to Siyanda Xulu (who left Chiefs and went on to shine for Maritzburg United) will also happen to Buchanan. He is a quality player. Injuries also hampered his progress at Chiefs."

Maritzburg United are interested in the services of Buchanan.

Siphelele “Stashi” Ntshangase is the hot favourite to take the No 10 jersey at Amakhosi as he has expressed his desire to don it in the last couple of months.
