Johannesburg – Thapelo Morena has joined Mamelodi Sundowns on a five-year deal, the club has announced.

The 22-year-old midfielder joins the Brazilians from Bloemfontein Celtic for an undisclosed fee.

“Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Thapelo Morena to further bolster their squad as the team prepares a two-pronged mission to defend their Absa Premiership title and go for broke in the next CAF Champions League campaign,” a statement from the club read.

“The Under-23 player played a critical role in Bloemfontein Celtic's league campaign last season, starting 30 games. He partnered Sundowns' Keagan Dolly for the national side in the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil. “

The announcement ends speculation about the future of the player, who penned a five-year deal with the Champions.

“Several PSL clubs were said to be after his signature.” Morena joins Lucky Mohomi and Sibusiso Vilakazi as the new signings in Sundowns' squad. Pitso Mosimane's team are currently preparing to travel Nigeria for a CAF Champions League meeting against Enyimba next week. - African News Agency (ANA)
