CAPE TOWN – Yannick Zakri can’t wait to get his Ajax Cape Town spell under way. The 26-year-old Ivory Coast striker has arrived in the Mother City on a six-month loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, with head coach Muhsin Ertugral confident the new man will galvanise the team in attack.

Ajax host Free State Stars in a PSL fixture at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday night (kick-off 8pm) – and the Capetonians are in a race against time to have Zakri’s paper work sorted before then. According to Ertugral, if the player is registered in time, he will start on the bench against Stars.

“It’s great to have such quality in the squad,” said the Ajax coach. “With Zakri, Tendai (Ndoro) and Fagrie (Lakay), we are now much stronger in attack.”

As for Zakri, he’s determined to make a contribution to ensure that Ajax ease their relegation fears.

“This is a good move for me,” said the Ivorian. “I’ve seen Ajax play and I know they play nice football. They miss some experience right now and I want to add that to the team. I’m happy to be here, I’ve always wanted to play at Ajax, and now I have my opportunity.

“At Sundowns, the players aren’t my teammates, they are my brothers. Now I have a new family and I just want to do my best. I trust the coach and I want to help the team. We just have to take it game by game, and everything will come right.”
