JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach Pitso Mosimane dropped a bombshell, revealing that he will be careful in how he talks about players he wants to sign in the future because he doesn’t want to get “love letters” from angry club bosses.
Cape Town City chairman John Comitis wrote Sundowns’ a scathing letter for tapping Aubrey Ngoma, who ended up signing for the Brazilians. Comitis wasn’t the only boss who felt aggrieved by Mosimane and his antics.
SuperSport United chief executive Stanley Matthews also lashed out during the long-drawn out Jeremy Brockie saga and so did Maritzburg United chairman Farouk Kadodia amidst reports that Sundowns were after Brian Onyango.
“They will say that I am playing mind games, I am disturbing players and when I want to buy him they won’t sell him to me,” Mosimane said. “Remember the John Comitis issue with Aubrey Ngoma?
"But ask (Real Madrid coach Zinedine) Zidane if he wants this player. He says it, ‘I would love to have this player’, and there is no problem. Everyone says it in Europe. ‘He is not our player but if a player like that is available, we would like to have him in the team’. You say that in South Africa… (you get a) love letter.”
“And you want to tell me that nobody speaks to my players? You want to tell me that nobody speaks to (Asavela) Mbekile? Nobody speaks to Thabo (Nthethe)? They speak to them. It’s okay. Why are we making this an issue? Because someone spoke to my player? Let’s be mature about this. They speak to my players.
"If we want Oupa Manyisa, how are we going to get him? We speak to him. What if we want a player, speak to a club, agree everything and then go to him and then he says who said I want to play for your team?
"What are you buying then? Someone who doesn’t want to play for the team. You have to ask the guy, can we buy you. Some people are speaking to my players.”
The Brazilians maintained top spot in the ABSA Premiership with a come from behind win on the road.

So did Mosimane write those people “love letters” too?
“No! I don’t need to do that,” Mosimane said. “That’s childish. Love letters because somebody called your player. Themba Zwane, someone is speaking to him from one of the biggest teams in the country. I don’t want to mention their name.
"Themba Zwane said coach, ‘this coach is calling me almost every day’. And the coach knows. He is closer to me. I am not going to say his name. I will protect him. It’s not Steve (Komphela). That coach is close to me but it’s not Steve.”
