The City of Cape Town has urged local football followers to come out and get behind the teams involved in Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final at the Cape Town Stadium between Maritzburg United and Free State Stars.
In meeting the Maritzburg delegation when they arrived in the Cape on Monday morning, Councillor Stuart Diamond stressed that this was an opportunity for the Mother City to show its love for football.
“We have been working closely with the sponsors and the PSL,” said Diamond. “This city has a rich soccer culture, and we want to send out the message that Cape Town is open for football.

“This is an opportunity for us, as a city, to get behind football. Choose a team, whether it’s the blue of Maritzburg or the red of Free State Stars, and come out and support.
“We are going to put on a show on Saturday – and, if we can do this, and fill up our iconic stadium, then we can go out and say ‘Give us more football’.
