Berlin – Rome winner Maria Sharapova climbed back to second behind Serena Williams in the women’s tennis rankings released by the WTA.
The Russian earned a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory Sunday in the Rome Masters final over Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro, who advances two places to eighth.
Williams has 9 361 points at the top of the rankings, followed by Sharapova on 7 710 and Roman’s Simona Halep on 7 360.
