Johannesburg - On Thursday, Google South Africa launched its new service, Play Movies for the South African market.

The service allows South Africans to rent or purchase full-lenghts movies from major Hollywood studios directly to their smartphones, tablets, computers and smart TVs for online and offline viewing.

Made available since midnight on Wednesday, South Africans have been given access to new releases, family favourites, classics and everything under the sun. However, locally-produced films haven’t been made available to this service but Google SA assures that South Africans will be given access once its been made available.

From R19.99, you have the option to buy or rent the movies. If you do plan on rent a movie or a few, you’ll be given a time frame of 30 days to view the rented films and 48 hours to complete your movie viewing once you’ve hit the ‘play’ button.

How to get Play Movies:

Android devices - Open the Play Store on your phone or tablet, and open ‘Movies’. You can either stream the movies directly to your device or download to watch at a later time.

iOS devices - Download the Google Play Movies app from the Apple App Store on your iPhone or iPad. Once in the Play Movies app, films purchased will be made available to stream or download.

On the web - Browse to the Google Play store (play.google.com/), purchase or rent films immediate viewing.

On your TV - Films can be readily viewed on Android TV, Chromecast, or (coming soon) LG Smart TV.
