Cape Town - Education MEC Donald Grant is to launch a new website to assist matric pupils with exams.

The website was to be launched on Monday, said spokesperson Bronagh Casey.

“The website has been created to support revision for the 2013 National Senior Certificate examinations. The website contains, for the first time, matric support via YouTube.

“Candidates can access over 180 videos, which include recordings from the WCED (Western Cape education department) telematics programme, on the special matric support YouTube channel.”

The programme broadcasts lessons, presented by subject experts via satellite to 144 schools after school and over weekends.

Casey said the website would offer a number of additional options for pupils. “The matric support site also offers access to the department’s Tips for Success book for matric candidates, links to previous examination papers, frequently asked questions and national resources.”

Grant previously said of the website that it would help pupils as an extra study tool. “The department will soon be launching a matric support resource which will include YouTube recordings from our telematics programme in key subjects such as mathematics and physical science.

“The new resource page is planned to go live prior to the September school holidays and will act as an additional study tool.”

A number of resources had been made available for pupils to use during this period leading up to the final exams. The Western Cape Education Department’s website had a resource page with self-study guides, past exam papers and tips on how to prepare and plan study time.

The website would be presented to the media on Monday in Grant’s offices.
