The executive mayor of Ekurhuleni Tania Campbell says she remains focused on service delivery despite threats of a motion of no confidence against her being ‘plotted’ by the opposition bloc in the municipality.

Campbell is next on the list of DA mayors to be removed following the removal of Johannesburg mayor, Mpho Phalatse. The ANC’s top brass in the province has also announced that the party wants to retrieve all lost metros before the end of the year.

Campbell said subsequent to events in the Johannesburg Council last week, rumours had been circulating regarding the state of the multi-party coalition government in the City of Ekurhuleni.

“I feel it prudent to dispel these rumours and ease the concerns of residents. When we assumed office in November 2021, we undertook to get back to basics to improve the lives of all who live in the city,” Campbell said.

Campbell said to date, the multi-party coalition had made great strides in delivering on their mandate.

“Service delivery remains at the top of the agenda for the multi-party coalition, as it has done for the past eleven months,” she said.

Despite Action SA warning that the coalition in Ekurhuleni could collapse, Campbell said she and other coalition partners remained undisturbed.

“We are undeterred by rumours, as they are just that – rumours,” she said.

The DA’s national leadership said it would maintain all coalition agreements despite developments in Johannesburg, The party said it had confidence in Campbell’s leadership.
