THE TRIAL against “Dr” Mandla Lamba, Soweto’s self-declared billionaire and mining tycoon was postponed in the Orlando Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Lamba, 25, faces charges of fraud for allegedly swindling taxi owners out of hundreds of thousands of rand.

The charge relates to a scam where Lamba promised to help taxi owners acquire new vehicles.

The taxi owners then paid a deposit of R40 000 each, and when nothing materialised, they laid charges.

He also faces a charge of theft involving about R480 000, as well as a culpable homicide case that relates to a 2007 car crash in Roodepoort in which Wayne Greeff and his eight-year-old son Brandon were killed.

Lamba remains in custody. The case was postponed until July 29 for further investigation. – Staff Reporter
