State to take Agrizzi to a specialist to determine whether he can stand corruption trial

The NPA’s Investigating Directorate ID) said Bosasa Chief Operations Officer Angelo Agrizzi will be examined by the independent pulmonologist, to determine if he can stand his corruption trial.

Agrizzi’s fraud case returned to the Gauteng Division Palm Ridge Specialised Crimes Court this morning and was postponed to 12 July 2022.

Agrizzi stands accused of offering gratification on behalf of Bosasa to former Parliamentarian Vincent Smith, in exchange for his influence as the then chairperson of Parliament’s oversight committee on Correctional Services.

Bosasa scored contracts which totalled just over R1 billion from Correctional Services between 2004 and 2007.

“Tomorrow 19 May Agrizzi will be examined by an independent pulmonologist . Warrant of arrest against Angelo Agrizzi stayed,” said ID spokesperson Sindisiwe Seboka.

A pulmonologist is a doctor who diagnoses and treats diseases of the respiratory system -- the lungs and other organs that help you breathe.

Agrizzi’s legal representative Advocate Mannie Witz told The Star that his client is dependent upon oxygen 24 hours of respiratory acidosis and cardiac conditions amongst other health issues.

“The state has appointed an expert to examine and give a report on the health condition of Agrizzi and whether he can stand trial or not,” said Witz.

Witz further said “ Agrizzi has from the beginning given his full cooperation and assistance to the state and will continue to do so .we will establish the position once the medical experts have done their tests and received the results”.
