The comeback of kwaito music star Bonginkosi Dlamini, affectionately known as Zola 7, is something many South Africans can’t wait to see, particularly after all that has been done to help him get back on his feet.

When it was announced that the Soweto-born star would be headlining the inaugural Kwaito Legends Festival in his honour, it ignited a spark of excitement.

Dlamini will be part of the star-studded event taking place on April 2 at Bears Palace in Carolina, Mpumalanga.

This event was launched in 2015 to preserve the original sound of kwaito music.

Dlamini will share the stage with the likes of Mapaputsi, Jakarumba, Professor, Alaska, Spikiri and others.

In a video shared on social media, Zola 7 had promised his fans that he would come back and do what he did best.

“I will make a plan for a lot of you. I know there is a problem with jobs in this country, just give me a chance to recover. I’m coming with the hustle this year. I’m going to try to help you, I’ve got all the right people.”

In the past few weeks, his name had been the subject of the talk across social media platforms and we have seen people come together to assist him financially through crowdfunding.

Calls were made across several platforms for other artists and the government to help the poet to rise again, just as he used his stardom to help others in the music industry.

Businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, aka Mamkhize, and her son visited him and said he was in good spirits.

Artists such as DJ Cleo and Jub Jub had also gone to his home in Soweto.

The Department of Arts and Culture also stepped in, saying it would cover his medical bills – Dlamini has been battling epilepsy for several years.
