Tears flowed as Collan Rex's first alleged attempted murder victim took the stand to testify on a "normal" practice of choking learners at their prestigious Joburg school.
The 17-year-old schoolboy, who has since left Parktown Boys High School, was one of the victims to have suffered sexual assault violations from Rex.
Testifying on Tuesday afternoon at the South Gauteng High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court , t he former Parktown Boys learner said he had been at the school from Grade 8 to Grade 9 in the years 2015 and 2016 when he was sexually assaulted by Rex. At the time, Rex was the teenager's water polo coach and hostel master.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named to protect his identity as he is a minor, demonstrated an act which Rex allegedly performed on him by putting in a supposed wrestling move known as a headlock.
"It was on multiple occasions; usually after prep (study session). He (Rex) would come to dorms and pick on a random person...and would start (with the choking)," the emotional boy testified, adding the act was "force with aggression".
The State has charged Rex with an additional 183 charges to the 144 he pleaded guilty to.
The extra charges include attempted murder, rape, sexual grooming and exposing minors to pornography.
Defence Advocate William Robertse emphasised that his client would testify that the wrestling was playful and "normal" in the school's hostel and that Rex had no intention to kill any of the learners. The schoolboy did concede that learners in the hostel would play wrestling.
Rex has pleaded not guilty to all 183 additional charges. The trial continues.
