Rome is known for its historical buildings, art and cuisine. The Italian capital is just waiting to be explored. Here are some facts you should know before you visit:

1:Rome was founded in 753 BC by Romulus. Legend has it that Romulus had a twin brother called Remus. 

The brothers were abandoned as babies, but as fate would have it, the pair were raised by a she-wolf. As they grew older, the brothers started to feud, eventually leading to Romulus to Remus. He then became the first ruler of Rome.

2: Rome became the capital city of Italy in 1870. Florence was once the capital.

3. Rome is so crazy for pasta that they have a museum dedicated entirely to pasta. The museum showcases Italian art made from pasta and the origins of Italian dishes. You are bound to work up an appetite after that.

4. Modern Rome has 280 fountains and more than 900 churches.

5: The coins tossed into Rome’s Trevi Fountain are donated to a catholic charity called Caritas to help those in need.
