Cape Town - If you’re looking to sample the world’s best cuisine, you might not have to search further than your backyard.

This, as Cape Town has beaten the likes of Dubai and Tel Aviv to take Condé Nast Traveler’s Best Food City in its Reader’s Choice awards.

Local eateries mentioned in the short brief included Kalky’s, now world-renowned for its hake and chips; the Test Kitchen with its yoghurt snowballs and the Biscuit Mill’s Pot Luck Club.

Readers were also encouraged to try Gin Bar’s interesting cocktail selection.

Mayor Patricia de Lille’s spokeswoman, Zara Nicholson, said: “This is a truly amazing commendation for Cape Town. Our food culture is one of the most diverse and distinct in the world and we are home to some of the world’s best restaurants and hotels boosted by our breathtaking natural views.

“Our hospitality industry is filled with extraordinary talent, who are not only passionate about their craft but also passionate about the service we offer visitors.

“We are immensely proud of this recognition for our city, and the mayor extends her congratulations and gratitude to the many people working in the hospitality industry who have put Cape Town at the top once again.

“This is an added boost to our tourism industry, which continues to be an important contributor to job creation and economic growth.”
