South African Airways (SAA) has temporarily cancelled flights between Johannesburg and Abuja from 25 May to 16 June. The airline has cited ‘operational reasons’ for the disruption to the service.

Uzair (Oz) Desai, GM of Corporate Traveller, said passengers can either be re-accommodated on flights to Nigeria’s business hub, Lagos; fly to Abuja via Addis Ababa or cancel their trip and request a refund. “Don’t leave it to the last minute,” he warned.

All affected travellers can be re-accommodated on SAA’s flights to Lagos. However, it is important to note that passengers accepting to travel to Lagos, will be responsible for their own onward transport to Abuja and will need to do so at their own expense. Corporate Traveller can assist passengers with the best options in this regard.

Alternatively, passengers can also opt to travel between Johannesburg and Abuja via Addis Ababa. All change fees will be waivered, but tickets need to be booked and paid on or before 16 June.

Passengers wanting to cancel their flights, can request a full refund. SAA’s frequent flyer programme ‘Voyager’ has ensured that passengers holding a Voyager booking, will be refunded and their Miles will be re-instated if they do not wish to be re-accommodated on other flights.
