On Tuesday, friends, family and celebrities from all over the country paid their final respects to TV actress Precious Simelane, who died last week at George Mukhari Hospital after a short illness.

The 27-year-old's life was celebrated at her funeral in Pretoria.

People preferred to express gratitude at having known and worked with her, rather than mourn her death.

It was nevertheless a sad occasion for close friends and family. But her relatives urged those who were there to sing songs of thanks and praise.

This was how Precious, who had acted in Generations and Backstage, had lived her life - through song and praise.

Grandmother Maria Mahlangu said during her last few days, Precious had still sung. Even in hospital she would force everyone who visited her to join in a hymn or gospel song.

The service was held at the Apostolic Mission Faith Church in Atteridgeville, where the actress grew up, and proceeded to Zandfontein Cemetery.

Born on October 10, 1977, Simelane attended St Anne's Primary School and moved to Loreto Convent. She completed her secondary education at Pro Arte and then studied drama at the Tshwane University of Technology and at Unisa.
