Hluhluwe River Lodge is an intimate forest lodge with stupendous views of Lake St Lucia. It is an ideal place to stay over if one wants to explore Hluhluwe's game reserves and wildlife attractions.
Here are some reasons why I loved my recent stay…
Privacy
After a long week at the office, Hluhluwe River Lodge is one of those places that offers peace and quiet for travellers seeking solace. Guests can choose to laze around in their wooden chalets or they can venture out exploring the property.
Stunning accommodation
As it is tucked away in the forest, the accommodation provides a tranquil setting. The chalets are within the forest canopy, which provides a cool and relaxing atmosphere.
The chalets are built on stilts with thatch roofs and wooden decks. Each room is air-conditioned and equipped with mosquito nets during the summer months.
Private villa
If travellers want to have a villa to themselves, then Mkhulu’s House is perfect. The private homestead is tucked away in its own secret forest. The house sleeps 4 people in two en suite rooms. Guests have their own private swimming pool, entertainment area and deck with views of St Lucia. Other amenities include a fully equipped kitchen, bar area, private library and braai facilities.
Great food
One of the best features of the lodge is the dining area. There is a different menu every night. Some of the popular choices include beef kebabs, thai chicken curry and rump steak.
Travellers are urged to keep a look out for the Large Spotted Genet named Jenny who loves a piece of beef and kudu fillet served at dinner. Dinners can be arranged on the terrace under the stars.
