If you are visiting the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, make sure you make a stop at this year’s Sapphire Coast Summer Festival. Known for its gorgeous coastal towns and laidback lifestyle, the KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast is a prime holiday destination. With the arrival of tourists to the South Coast this festive season, a range of activities have been planned to make their holiday a memorable one.

The summer festival will include Christmas markets, nature walks and there will be plenty of time to enjoy the warm beaches and to catch a summer tan.

Romy Wenzel told IOL Travel that December attracts many travellers to the South Coast.

“Our incredible beaches, world-class dive sites, cultural spots, nature reserves and quality food and drink venues keep the tourists coming year after year.

“This year, the summer festival will encompass everything that makes the South Coast special. A lot of effort has gone in the planning of this event, and it will definitely be bigger and better than last year. Our aim is for visitors to enjoy their stay and hopefully come back,” said Wenzel.

She added that the activities will centre around families and expose travellers to the stunning beaches the South Coast has to offer.

Here are some highlights of the festival:

Nature walks

There will be two nature walks taking place at Burchells Coucal Eco Trail, situated at 1 Deeptank Road in Illovo. They will take place on December 20 for the children, from 8am to 10am, at a cost of R30 per child, and a Birding and Nature Walk from 7am to 11am on December 23.

Amanzimtoti main beach programme

Amanzimtoti, Baggies and Winklespruit beaches will play host to a number of beach activities centred on the theme ‘Family – young and old having fun together!’ There will be entertainment from DJ Fluffy and DJ Chris and plenty of fun giveaways, vouchers and promotions. Visitors can look out free drumming lessons and 10 pin bowling on the beach.

Amanzimtoti Park Run

The weekly 5km Amanzimtoti Park Run takes place every Saturday at 8am from Beach Road, Amanzimtoti. Incorporating the beach, this run is great for beginners and professionals.
