Cape Town is renowned for its exquisite selection of fine wines.

It's no surprise that its winelands and its surrounds have produced dozens of internationally acclaimed and award-winning wines. With such a storied wine-making history spanning over 300 years, these beautiful wine farms continue to produce some A-grade drink.

Here are a few of the wine farms you simply need to check out:

Steenberg Vineyards

Steenberg is arguably Cape Town's most storied wine farm. 335 years on from its founding, Steenberg has produced countless fine wines and is largely recognised to be the Cape's first wine farm. Apart from its wine, Steenberg also has a 5-star hotel and two stunning eateries.

De Grendel Wine Estate

De Grendel wine estate is a family-run farm particularly famous for its award-winning Pinot Gris. De Grendel also has a beautiful view of table mountain and its De Grendel restaurant offers a delicious lunch menu. Perched high up on Tygerberg Hill, this farm is appropriately positioned at the summit of the hill.

Hout Bay Vineyards

Founded in 2003, Hout Bay Vineyards had some tough early years. 14 years on and husband and wife, Peter and Cathy, who own the farm, have shaken off their troubled start. Today, Hout Bay Vineyards is one of the premier wine farms on the Cape. They started off with champagne but have since expanded to produce a Sauvignon Blanc, a Petrus and a Blush.
