Amid juggling stories, interviews and deadlines, journalists dream of taking a holiday to some of the most beautiful places in the world. I got some colleagues together and asked them where they would want to go on holiday. This is what they had to say...

Omeshnie Naidoo, Family Editor

Thomas Land in Tokyo.

Omeshnie would love to take a trip to Japan.

“My 3-year-old son is obsessed with Thomas & Friends and probably has the largest collection of tank engines any kid on the continent could have. We encourage his imaginative play and since he and my other son have never been on a plane, I would love for their first holiday abroad to be magical. So right now the dream destination is Japan, because it is home to Thomas Land,” she said.

The theme park is situated in Fuji-Q Highland in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi. It includes life size Thomas & Friends characters, a story-driven narrated indoor rail ride, self-drive vehicles and  a maze and loads more. Omeshnie would also love to see the natural beauty of the countrysides, the ancient wooden temples, the vibrant markets, ride the waterways and shop in Tokyo.

Buhle Mbonambi, Food Editor

Singapore.

Buhle would love to get a sense of the food culture in Singapore.

“I would love to explore and get lost in Singapore’s vast food markets. Apparently discussing food is a national past time of Singapore- and being a foodie, I will fit right in."

“Locally, I love Thonga Beach Lodge,a  5-star lodge on the Elephant Coast in KwaZulu-Natal. It is situated in the middle of nowhere and offers lots for travellers. My favourite part is being able to watch the whales and turtles,” he said.

Nabeelah Shaikh, Journalist: Sunday Tribune

Thailand.

Nabeelah has short and long term goals for her travels. On her short term list is Thailand for its tropical beaches and laid back atmosphere while her long term travel plans include New York.

“There is so many places I want to explore. For now, the 2 places that have my attention are Thailand and New York. Thailand is known for their lovely beaches, while New York is a hip and happening spot that is known for its fashion and fast-paced lifestyle,” she said.

Sacha Van Niekerk, Lifestyle journalist

Mykonos in Greece.

If Sacha had to choose, she would escape to Greece. Niekerk said: “Greece has been on my bucket list for years. The destination is renowned for its food, incredible views and beaches. Also, I always wanted to ride a donkey up a little road…”
