Jazz sensation Zoe Modiga, hip hop artist Zulu Boy, actor-cum-rapper Batsile Ramasodi and the Market Theatre artists took to the one of the busiest spots in the inner city of Joburg warm up crowds with dance and song.

Led by The Market Theatre artistic director and legendary actor James Ngcobo, the cast of dancers, and musicians turned the usual rush and bustle of the Park Station main concourse into a delightful concert stage —  a pleasant surprise and much to the commuters' delight.

As the the impromptu mini concert was initiated by cellphone giant MTN, in partnership with The Market Theatre.

The Youth Day Celebration concert kicked off with a mellow musical piece by violinist Phenyo Nakedi with choreography, followed by rapper Zulu Boy, Batsile Ramasodi and Zoe Modiga.

The Soulful singers Gugulethu Shezi, Nomfundo Dlamini and Nokukhanya Dlamini also serenaded the crowds with their golden melodic voices.

"We can all do with some surprise and delight on a cold and busy day. MTN wanted to showcase these amazingly talented singers, dancers and musicians to our city and beyond, so we’ve partnered with the busiest transport hub in South Africa, the Johannesburg Park Station. 

"Ahead of our nation’s Youth Day commemoration, we want to celebrate the talent and energy of our youth and there is no better way than to bring it the Bozza way,” says Jacqui O’Sullivan, Executive for Corporate Affairs at MTN SA.

Spotted mingling and taking selfies with the fans are some of the local stars Ryan Keys, Chiano Sky, Armand Du Plessis, Lasizwe Dambuza, Mimi Mahlasela, Zinhle Khumalo, Bujy Bikwa and Nthato Mashishi.

Commenting on the unconventional impromptu mini concert, Ngcobo enthused: “This is a piece that is that is speaking to the prowess young, the vigor of the young and the excitement that in the contemporary landscape in this country. 

"To be able to come and create the visibility of the brand in the very unconventional way has been really exciting for me as a theatre maker and a storyteller.”

Local rapper and actor Mxolisi "Zuluboy" Majozi Zulu shared his "powerful" Youth Day message:

Former Generations: The Legacy actor and musician, Batsile Ramosodi said he is spending this Youth Day sharing his knowledge with his children and cousins.
